Our radioclub has a rich history, which is started back in 1981 in the Baku Oil and Energy College located in Bakikhanov settlement of Baku city. In 1990 the club station moved to the Youth Technical Creativity Center where it was possible to open a small museum dedicated to the General Azi Aslanov - the tank division commander on Stalingrad Front during the Great Patriotic War.

The radio club was founded in November 1981. On Victory Day, May 9, 1983, it was named after Azi Aslanov. The first members (founders) of the club:

  • UD6DFY / 4K5D - Igor Alimardanov;
  • UD6DLO - Alexander Gavrilin;
  • UD6AS / RW3WL - Bugaev Anatoly Kuzmich;
  • RD6DIN / UR4QPZ - Osipov Georgy;
  • UD6GF / 4K6GF - Reichstein Joseph Semenovich

There were 16 club members in total. 4K6GF was elected chairman of the amateur club. The club had a UW3DI (2nd option), a power amplifier on 3 GU-50 and LW-120 m antennas and 3 squares on a rotating mast 16 meters high.

From the first days, we took an active part in many international, all-Union and republican competitions and took prizes. In daily work, they fulfilled the conditions of a wide variety of diplomas. There are about 300 of them today. We often went on radio expeditions. This is the city of Lenkoran - the birthplace of Hazi Aslanov, Volgograd on the 40th anniversary of the victory, where they laid wreaths and flowers at Aslanov’s slab on Mamayev Kurgan, and from there they worked with the special call sign UA4/UD7DWZ. We were also in the city of Shusha, Stepanakert - region 003, in Nakhchivan - region 002.

The largest number of members was around 50 by 1988. Due to well-known events, many radio amateurs were forced to leave Azerbaijan. They went to near and far abroad where they received new call signs and went on the air. Love for our hometown, great friendship and craving for old friends prompted the idea of creating a round table on air, which we organized already in 1993 and every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at a frequency of 14.145 KHz Baku residents meet to this day day. Many are happy about these meetings, learn news from Baku, and convey greetings to their remaining friends and relatives. We are happy to convey the warmth of our hearts, and that their hometown, Baku, is becoming even more beautiful and cleaner. Up to 20 radio amateurs come to participate in the round table.

The club’s radio station took part and provided assistance to the Red Cross in January 1990; lost refugees and soldiers were found. During the earthquake in Turkey, Iran, and Georgia, we worked on the frequency of the emergency rescue service, providing assistance in organizing communications with the disaster site. On November 25, while working in the CQ WW 22:10 contest, a strong earthquake occurred in Baku. And only 1 hour our call sign was not heard on the air, and we got good results.

Our club has a museum of Azi Aslanov. It contains stands showing the hero’s battle path, his war friends sharing their impressions of Aslanov. Books about Aslanov, his awards, a capsule with soil from Mamayev Kurgan, and models of T-34 tanks have been restored. On the stands there is the life of the club, meetings with veterans, a stand in memory of the silent keys.

The beginning of the museum is the “SEARCH” group, which was headed by Apanasenok Georgy Efimovich - UD6DAM. They also designed the museum. Some exhibits were made by craftsmen. The T-34 tank radio was sent by radio amateur Ermakov from Poltava.

The club was awarded the highest award of the DOSAF Central Committee - a badge of honor, a badge for active work. In 1985, the club was visited by a correspondent for RADIO magazine, Elena Tarubara, who wrote all about the work of the club and the education of young radio amateurs.

Unfortunately, the athorities’ focus was not in the development of the amateur radio and we were asked to move out from the facility in Spetember,2017. Since then the club station does not have a facility, however all current members are trying to keep 4K7Z callsign alive on the radio frequencies.

Our tradition is to gather together all amateurs in Azerbaijan two times in a year for a New Year Celebration and Victory Day Celebration

We always welcome Guests from other countries in our radio club.
